Eyeris Sleuth

Chapter 1: Part 1

Febuary 28th 2028

Los Angeles Police Department

Criminal Affairs Department

It wasn't exactly a normal day at the Los Angeles Police Department. Officers were bustling about rapidly, trying to get to their divisions, chatting to other officers about work and researching multiple cases on the computers. Division one and two, the homicide and general divisions respectively, were by far the busiest, with swarms of police officers from the said divisions going in and out of the police department. The second division, the international division or simply Interpol, by comparison, was unusually quiet and empty. In fact, there was only a dozen people in it. However, one person stood out among the others, who were quietly working away on the computers. And what was that person doing, you may be wondering?

Why, she was currently smoking a cigarette and mindlessly mashing away at a portable game console.

Eyeris Sleuth is a 31 year-old detective who has been a part of Interpol for about 4 years, Despite this fact, she was infamous for being one of, if not the laziest detective in the entirety of the Los Angeles Police Department. Whenever she wasn't on Interpol work (which was very rarely), she would almost always be seen on one of the couches, lousing around as though it was her own home. If not for her uniform and badge, one would be forgiven for mistaking her for a shut-in who (ironically) stumbled into the police department. And even those who did know of her status as Interpol Detective would struggle to figure out how she had not been fired yet for her clear inertia.

Though, this time, Eyeris did have an excuse for her not doing anything. After the end of the Dark Age of the Law; ironically ended by the two that had started it, Phoenix Wright and Simon Blackquill, along with Athena Cykes, Apollo Justice and Miles Edgeworth, the homicide and general divisions had devolved into madness, with re-investigations and retrials of cases being done by the dozens on a daily basis. However, as the international division had no relation to this, Eyeris was given the perfect excuse to do nothing but relax.

Or so she thought.

The door to the investigation division slowly opened, presumably to not disturb any of the people working. However, as it was silent to begin with, the opening of the door was quite audible. Hearing the opening of the door, Eyeris paused her game and raised her head, though with her cigarette still in mouth. Upon seeing the individual who opened, she sighed, already knowing what was going to happen.

"Miles Edgeworth. What bring you here to our humble little division?" Eyeris teased, removing the cigarette from her mouth and breathing out a huge puff of smoke. Edgeworth shook his head.

"I thought we've talked about you smoking in here." He stated as he watched the smoke rise up into the air and eventually disappear. Eyeris waved her hand in dismissal.

"That's not a rule, is it?"

Edgeworth pushed up his glasses. "No, but I'm sure I'll get to making it prohibited eventually."

"Pretty sure Mr Badd'll get pretty mad about that." Eyeris smirked. At that, Edgeworth smiled knowingly.

"Hm. You do raise a good point." The chief prosecutor acknowledged. "Though that doesn't excuse you gaming and lounging around on the job."

"Whatever, there's nothing for me to do anyways. All of the hubbub is over at the homicide and general divisions. Us Interpol members have nothing to do, I'm afraid." The Interpol detective shrugged, before slipping her game console into her pocket. "Anyways, I doubt you're here just to say hi. What's the deal?"

"Ah, straight to the point, are you?" Edgeworth questioned.

"I was about to beat the boss, so I need to make this quick." Eyeris answered coolly, placing her arm on the couch and leaning her head into the arm. "Make this quick, won't you?"

Edgeworth crossed his arm in annoyance. "Hmph. So mouthy..." He mumbled, loud enough for Eyeris to hear, but started to explain anyways. "With the amount of retrials that have appeared with the ending of the Dark Age of the Law, we have little time to actually tackle new cases. To be more specifics, our detectives are so busy with investigating past cases, they can't help with new cases. And so, since the international division just so happens to not be busy at the moment,-""

"You want me to help with the investigation of a case." Eyeris robotically finished for the chief prosecutor, who himself bore a small smirk.

"Glad to see we're on the same level." Edgeworth replied in amusement. His amusement only doubled when he saw the look of genuine annoyance that had appeared on Eyeris' expression.

"Can't you get Detective Gumshoe to help or something? He's handled multiple cases simultaneously before, this should be no issue." The black-haired detective asked the chief prosecutor, her casual tone laced with desperation.

"Can't. He's currently on vacation with Magey. It's about time he got one, anyways." Edgeworth refuted. After a few moments of silence, in which Eyeris attempted to find more excuses only to not find any, she sighed.

"Alright, alright. I'll do it." Eyeris said before standing up and stretching her arms. She hadn't moved from the couch for a good hour or three. "Alright, what's the case? Assault? Theft?"

"Homicide." As Edgeworth spoke those words, Eyeris' eyes narrowed. "What with the ending of most judicial corruption, I'd had hope that people would not have the nerve to commit murder. To be truthful, I'm surprised still quite surprised that someone had the gall to do so." Edgeworth explained courteously. "The defense attorney and prosecutor have already been chosen and have already started their investigation. Anyway, I shall now lead you to the scene of the crime; we needn't any more delays." Edgeworth stated before he made his way towards the exit, only stopping to turn back and look at Eyeris in expectation. She sighed once again before she followed him.

When they made it outside, Eyeris lit up another cigarette and put it in her mouth, relaxation entering her as she breathed in the smoke.

'This is going to be a long day...'
