Call of the Revolution
Chapter 7: Defiant Dragons
"Frie'nd!?" I yelled in confusion. She was running towards us frantically, with tears in her eyes. There was also something under her arm.
"Huh? What's wrong, lady?" Datz asked. Suddenly, Frie'nd collapsed to the ground and started to hyperventilate.
"Frie'nd! Calm down, calm down!" I said. "Breathe in and out slowly!" After a few moments, she managed to stop.
"Are you okay?" Dhurke asked. I was initially worried that Frie'nd might freak out even more seeing Dhurke, who she thought was a wanted man. However, Frie'nd seemed to disregard him completely, as she continued to sob.
"I don't think she's ready to talk right now." I said, remembering my own time of 'insanity' just about a month ago. "I guess for now, we'll just bring her inside so that she can relax."
"N-no... I'll talk..." Frie'nd said weakly.
"Are you sure? Whatever happened, it sounds like it was rough." I asked her. She slowly nodded.
"Yes... I must be strong... for him..." Frie'nd said, wiping away her tears. She than began to tell us what happened.
"Y-yesterday, Hehl'pur Tu'all... m-my husband... honey was... murdered." She said, her tears immediately running anew. I approached her.
"Really? That's horrible!" I said, putting my hand on her shoulder. I knew first-hand how it felt to have someone you love die. However, my parents died rather peacefully. I at least had time to say goodbye. But having that person murdered, with no chance to say goodbye or anything of the sort? I couldn't imagine myself being able to go through that.
"I-I was immediately put under arrest... as the prime suspect for his murder." She continued. Dhurke's eyes dimmed.
' A lover murdered and becoming the defendant for their killing... Dhurke must sympathize with her already. I assumed. They are practically in the same situation.
"In that cell, I was so confused... depressed and... s-scared. Time passed without me even noticing it, and the trial began." Frie'nd said. "B-but then..."
'Y-your Magistry! W... where's my attorney!?'
' I suppose you just don't have one.'
'W-what do you mean!? B-but aren't I suppose to have an attorney!?'
'Ha ha ha ha!'
'Y-your Eminence!?'
'Are you a dunce? Have you truly no idea of the brand new law?'
'Wha-'
'Defandant, allow me to explain what the brand new DC Act is: In the name of Her Eminence, those who would support criminals will be deemed just as guilty. It seems this time, the defense attorneys were smart for once, and decided to not kill themselves over a criminal.'
'What...? B-but I was never informed of such a law! And either way, I wouldn't kill honey! I'd never! I love him with all my heart!'
' Love is quite a fickle thing, wouldn't you agree? Perhaps it was an argument, self-defense or perhaps you secretly hate him. Either way, you are, in fact, the murderer of the late Hehl'pur Tu'al!'l
'No, your Eminence! Your Magistry! Please!'
'Well then, this trial was rather quick to end. Either way, I will now pronounce my verdict.'
'no...'
'I hearby declare that the defandant, Frie'nd Tu'all, is...'
'Please... no...'
' GUILTY '
'NOO!'
"A-at that moment, I bolted to the exit as fast I could. They weren't expecting me to run, but I still barely managed to escape the courthouse. B-but even then, where could I even go? Anywhere I went in Khura'in, the Queen could always send the Royal Guards after me. B-but then I realized that you were here in the mountains... which were the only place I could only think of that wasn't in Khura'in that I could easily go to. S-so I r-ran here a-as fast I could so that they couldn't convict... me of killing honey..." Frie'nd concluded, still crying.
Both myself and Datz felt the exact same emotion at Frie'nd's story. Anger. It was apparent on our faces. But, oddly enough, Dhurke seemed to be emotionless. He put Apollo and Nahyuta down and grabbed what was in Frie'nd's arm. It was a law book. He flipped a few pages before stopping at one. I stood up and walked over to see the law book page Dhurke was reading. It read:
"In the name of Her Eminence, those who would support criminals will be deemed just as guilty."
All of sudden, Dhurke took the law book and slammed it as hard as he could on the ground.
"D-daddy?" Nahyuta said, clutching onto Dhurke's pants, as did Apollo.
"I refuse." Dhurke said, hiding his face from view.
"Huh, refuse what?" Datz asked.
"I refuse to let this brand new Queen destroy what Amara did for Khura'in." Dhurke elaborated.
"Dhurke, I would also like to have this law gone as soon as possible, but how exactly can we do that?" I asked, looking at him.
"Rei'vol, you've been Ga'ran's servant for a while, right? Do you mind telling us a little bit about her?" Dhurke requested. I shrugged.
"Sure. Um, in general, Ga'ran is far more uncaring and stubborn than Queen Amara. She barely talks with any of the staff, and asks me to do a lot more menial work for her." I summarized.
"Just by that description, I can already tell she wouldn't listen to reason. Especially not from a wanted criminal." Dhurke assumed, before he took the book he threw to the ground, and handing it back to Frie'nd.
"S-so what is your idea?" Frie'nd asked. For a small moment, Dhurke didn't answer. But then, his eyes flew opened with more determination than I've ever seen on anyone's face.
"We rebel."
His answer was short and simple, yet the weight it carried was huge.
"Rebel? Rebel against what?" I asked.
"Rebel against this horrible law." Dhurke answered. "If this law continues, imagine the amount of people will be falsely convicted because they lack a defense attorney." He then pointed at Frie'nd. "While this lady was able to escape the Hall of Justice because they didn't expect her to run, I doubt they'll make the same mistake again." Frie'nd pulled back.
"The only way to remove this law is to actively fight against it. If that means a full fledged revolution, then so be it." Dhurke concluded. He then turned to face all of us. "Are any of you with me?"
"I'm in!" Datz immediately answered, walking over to his long time friend. "To be honest, this whole DC act is riling me up! Besides, we've been friends for so long there's no way I can abandon ya!"
"Heh. What about you two, Rei'vol, Frie'nd?" Dhurke asked.
I had to think about this for a moment. Should I join Dhurke and Datz? Joining a revolution would mean becoming wanted, and thus having my life threatened on multiple occasions. However, when I thought about what would come from this revolution: the end of this D.C Act and the return of the peace Amara created, and possibly Amara herself, I realized that it was worth pursuing this rebellion. Even if it meant death. Not just for me, but for my late parents that loved Khura'in more than I did. Even in death, they would've wanted me to do this.
"I am in. 'Till the end." I answered while smiling. I then turned over to Frie'nd, who was covering her mouth in thought.
"Hey, are you joi-"
"Yes." I immediately pulled back in surprise.
"Huh? That was certainly fast." I remarked. Frie'nd then removed her hand from her mouth, revealing a determined smile, with her tears dried up on her face.
"I-I also refuse to have my husband's death be in vain. If his death was a signal to start this revolution and save more lives... I think honey will be happy." She explained, standing up herself.
"Hmm, are you all sure?" Dhurke asked. We all nodded. "Alright then. From now on, we aid Khura'in in as much as we can. No matter in what situation. We will be the dragons of revolution. We will always try to help out Khura'in no matter what, for a dragon never yields."
?????? - Kingdom of Khura'in
Fire was spreading.
"KINGDOM OF KHURA'IN!"
People were running away.
"FOR FAR TOO LONG, WE HAVE LIVED UNDER THE OPPRESSION OF THE DC ACT!"
They fought back.
"INNOCENTS EXECUTED, CRIMINALS SENT FREE! OUR COUNTRY'S POLITICAL SYSTEM IS FLAWED AND DEADLY FOR ALL WHO LIVED UNDER IT!"
We fought back.
"WE WILL BRING OUR KINGDOM OF KHURA'IN BACK TO IT'S FORMER GLORY!"
No one won and no one lost.
"WE WILL TAKE DOWN GA'RAN!"
So we must continue fighting the same battle.
"FOR WE ARE...!"
And that's okay. Even though I've fought this battle countless times, I'll fight it a hundred more times. Everyone around me; Apollo, Nahyuta, Datz, Dhurke, Frie'nd, and even those who aren't actually there, like my parents and Queen Amara. They keep me going. They keep this revolution going. They were the ones who gave me my call to the revolution. And I can't thank them enough for it. And now, I, Rei'vol Lu'tion, will carry this revolution to its end.
"THE DEVIANT DRAGONS!!!"
