Character's Name: Brynne Mann
Age: 27
Occupation: Detective; part-timer at The Cookie Cauldron, a bakeshop
Connection to canon characters: None. Is in no way related to Deid Mann. Please stop sending her your condolences.

Case Involved In:
The Bewitched Turnabout. In The Cookie Cauldron, a bakeshop run by “witches”, the current head witch was stabbed to death and stowed away in an oven one night. The suspect is Gretchen Mann, heiress to the title of “head” with her husband Hansen Mann as the accomplice. The motive presented by the precinct is that Gretchen killed the head to speed up her rise in the ranks.

However, Brynne believes otherwise. Holding on to the faith that her parents are innocent, she pleads to head the investigation to find the truth behind the murder.

Physical Description:
Brynne Mann is a woman of a slightly stocky and muscular build, rounded facial features, and wavy red hair that tends to curl into small ringlets at the tips. Despite being more active in the precinct than in the bakery or coven, she still chooses to wear the standard skirt and hat that most witches wear together with an apron as a tribute to her roots. The earthy, Christmas-like vibe that her clothing gives off was inspired by the other witches affectionately calling her “ginger Brynne Mann” when she was younger.

Most of the tools she uses resemble supernatural trinkets. For instance, her magnifying glass is in the shape of an Ouija piece.

Personality Description:
Despite appearing like one of those nice, sugary, magical ladies one would see in children’s books, Brynne, in actuality, is a straightforward, stubborn, and serious person. She would rarely take things lightly and is adverse to making fun of a supposedly serious matter. Though tense, she works well under stress and is a firm believer of powering through problems with brute force and sheer determination. Suspect on the run? Chase them down like a mad dog. No evidence at the scene? Turn the whole place upside-down for clues. Prosecutor threatening to cut your salary? Work ten times as hard to nigh impossible levels and make them fear you instead.

Though her adamance can come off as intimidating or uncouth to some people, she does what she does because of the belief that everything has some degree of importance and should be treated with respect, and that no one has the excuse to slack off if they are capable of doing more. She also enjoys doing more than she is asked, like baking cookies for the other police or volunteering to run deliveries or clean the bakeshop after her shift at the precinct.

She holds everyone to the same standards as she does herself, but if given a proper explanation, she will do her best to understand that maybe some people are not as eager to fight the sun as she is.

Background:
Brynne Mann is the only daughter of Detective Hansen Mann and witchcraft practitioner Gretchen Mann. For most of her childhood, she spent time with her mother and the other local witches who have appointed themselves to be her “aunts” and “sisters”.

The coven does not perform actual magic though, but is better described to as a group of women who dabble in superstition, spirituality, herbal medicine, and rituals. However, despite their harmless nature, some people still remain skeptical about them, so in an effort to improve their community image, the coven put up a self-run bakeshop called “The Cookie Cauldron” to raise funds for ritual materials while feeding the people themed treats you’d typically find only during Halloween.

Thirteen years ago, Brynne became a vital witness that aided in the capture of a mugger who has been on the loose for two weeks. At the time, she was doing her rounds selling cookies from door to door in a neighborhood. She happened to stumble upon the house that the criminal, who was pretending to be just another resident, was living in and sold cookies to them. This went on for a few days until one night, her father fails to come home.

Worried, she and her mother rush to the precinct to find him collapsed from exhaustion. The detectives were at a loss for the mugger’s whereabouts and Hansen has overexerted himself trying to pinpoint possible hiding places based on their movements. Brynne grew intrigued and asked what was known about the mugger so far and upon hearing a physical description, immediately recalled one of the regulars who buy the coven’s cookies. Her familiarity with the layout of the neighborhood also helped with securing an escape-proof perimeter for a smooth arrest.

Inspired by the incident, Brynne then decided to go down the path of a police detective. Luckily for the coven, having a representative in the field of law helped earn more of the people’s approval and gave new advertising opportunities for The Cookie Cauldron.

Sample Expressions:
Shocked/Damaged- Squints sideways while thoughtfully holding a gingerbread man. She then slowly brings it to her mouth to eat it but stops mid-way when she realizes something. An invisible force knocks her backwards, breaking the cookie and sending her soul to another plane of existence. She stands limply, head thrown backwards for a while before standing upright to regain composure.

Neutral- Arms crossed while tapping her chin with her Ouija piece.

Thinking- Eyes dart around while wringing her ponytail with both hands.

Nervous- Chews the thumb of her glove while occasionally stretching it with her teeth. Face turned 3/4 away from front view and eyes are glued to the floor.

Happy- Holds the brim of her hat between two fingers and cocks head sidewards while smiling at the camera with an impressed expression (eg. One eyebrow raised)

Sad- Faces forward with a tired expression while clutching her hat to her chest.

Angry- Tightens her gloves by pulling them up her arm then proceeds to throw purifying salt at the offender. “FREE ME FROM THIS CURSE OF A PERSON! BEGONE EVIL, BEGONE!”
