Brief Physical Description: Tall older man with gray hair and a pink complexion. He wears a bailiff's uniform with a utility belt, including a gun holster.

Brief Personality Description: Strain is friendly to a fault and acts like a father toward his younger friends. He can even be heard encouraging troublemakers to do better as he escorts them to detention. He also takes a special glee in collecting unique items he has confiscated from people at the courthouse.

Connection to canon characters: Has a good working relationship with the judge (the judge is even planning a nice gift for Strain's retirement in a few months). Strain is familiar with many attorneys because of his work. He ends up calling Phoenix Wright when his granddaughter gets arrested for murder.

Brief Background: Strain was a police deputy for years before he settled into the somewhat calmer job of a court bailiff. Recently he has taken in his granddaughter, Lyle Kellogg, while she attends college nearby. Lyle is a prolific sleepwalker, getting out of bed every night and mumbling about searching for something. Strain is usually there to guide her back to bed. One night, under mysterious circumstances, Lyle has been left alone, and she wanders outside. The police are soon alerted to a young woman kneeling over a body in the street, holding a distinctive knife which had recently been confiscated at the courthouse by a certain bailiff. Though Strain and Wright barely know each other, the bailiff finds himself counting his granddaughter's life on the young attorney he's seen turn so many hopeless trials around.
